Most widely known for helping breast cancer survivors after surgery, 3-Dimensional designs can be tattooed post-mastectomy to recreate the areola and nipple. These tattoos play a vital part in the journey for survivors, helping them regain their confidence and enhance body positivity.
These tattoos are also suitable for reconstruction or enhancing the areola from other types of breast surgery, including: reductions, enlargements, lifts or top surgeries.
Once you are fully healed from surgery, it is perfectly safe to have a permanent tattoo over breast implants. However, it is important to visit an experienced artist trained in areola tattooing. Inexperienced artists could damage the skin and produce poor results.
When tattooing over scar tissue, it is important to wait until the scar has fully matured. This can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years depending on our individual circumstances, surgery types and/or cancer treatments. Most breast cancer survivors are advised to wait a minimum of 12 months post-mastectomy surgery and 6-12 month post-cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation.
Currently we are not billing to client’s insurance. However, we do supply receipts where the client can attempt to be reimbursed. Most insurance companies do have established treatment code for areola tattooing, and most companies realize that areola tattooing is associated with the reconstruction process.
